Dynamic SIM ToolKit

Technology Dynamic SIM Toolkit (DSTK) is the second generation of SIM Toolkit (STK).

This technology allows to form on the SIM-card a Dynamic SIM menu of value added services. Using this technology operators have the flexibility to manage the list of services in SIM menu depending on the subscriber's preferences and market conditions even on issued SIM-cards. As a result the subscribers always can find something new there and have no limits in browsing his/her menu because dynamic part of the menu doesn’t occupy SIM-card memory and can be bigger than standard SIM menu.

DSTK menu benefits:

  • Browsing (the ability to retain subscribers in service by friendly and intuitive menu navigation)
  • The ability to update sections and adding new services in both a dynamic and a resident parts of the menu
  • Low requirements to the subscriber's handsets

Marketing Introduction

Revenue from VAS services nowadays can reach 25% of an operator’s revenues. One way to provide such services is to implement an SIM menu on the subscribers’ cards.

An SIM menu is a menu on the subscriber’s phone that contains a list of services that can be used directly from the menu without entering any additional information.

One type of SIM menu is the Dynamic STK menu. Its main distinctive feature is that it allows changes to be made to its contents after it is installed on the subscriber’s card. This allows you to flexibly configure the set of services available to subscribers for their needs and thus increase ARPU from the services listed in the menu.

DSTK menus are much more convenient to use because you can organize SIM browsing‚ a feature that enables the user to stay in the menu after using one of the services. This tends to increase the average number of requests from the user and thus ARPU.

Product Description

A1 Systems Company has developed a Dynamic STK platform that is a separate component of the NaviSIM SDP. The platform is designed to allow the management of DSTK applications on the subscriber’s SIM card and the organization of mass campaigns to manage the content of DSTK applications on the SIM card.

This means you can:

  • Design and create a DSTK menu from scratch
  • Conduct mass campaigns to manage the content of DSTK applications
  • Organize SIM browsing
  • Fully manage the DSTK menu (modify‚ delete and add menu items)
  • Simultaneously serve multiple profiles of cards even with varying types of menus

Technical capabilities of the component:

  • Supports GSM 23.048‚ GSM 11.11‚ GSM 11.14‚ SIM Alliance‚ Global Platform‚ ETSI TS 102 222
  • Capacity: 10 SMS/sec
  • Up to 1000 concurrent open sessions
  • Convenient administration of components through WebGUI
  • SNMP monitoring
  • Horizontal scaling and rapid deployment
  • Multi-level logging

MNO Benefits

With the ability to flexibly configure the menu‚ you can offer the subscriber a choice of services contained in the SIM menu itself. This means the user can create a list of services that fully meets his or her needs. The DSTK menu’s enhanced capabilities translate to 130% higher ARPU than the STK menu.

Advantages for the user:

  • The user is offered services he or she really needs.
  • Support of SIM browsing means the content is not delivered as a separate SMS message‚ but rather appears in the same window from where the service was ordered. After receiving the content‚ the user can continue to use other services from the SIM menu.

Technical Requirements

To deploy the platform‚ you will need:

  • Place to put the server rack if you are deploying the solution at your end‚ or a VPN channel for connecting the platform remotely
  • An SMSC connection using the SMPP 3.4 protocol

Requirements for the SIM cards:

  • 3gpp 23.048 support
  • Java support
